With headquarters in Amsterdam, Antwerp, London and Los Angeles, Submarine is an Emmy award-winning production company that develops and produces feature films, scripted series, documentaries, animation and transmedia projects. Submarine has established itself as an innovative company, working across multiple genres and platforms, all with an international focus. It also owns the largest animation studio in The Netherlands. Submarine boasts a roster of award-winning films and series made in collaboration with an extensive network of internationally acclaimed creators.

Submarine has produced many acclaimed films such as Peter Greenaway’s Eisenstein in Guanajuato that premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2015, the Emmy Award-winning feature Last Hijack , Oscar-winning director Roger Ross Williams’ documentary American Jail for CNN and the BBC and the Netflix Original Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press that premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2017. The documentary Bellingcat: Truth in a Post-Truth World covers the rise of the first ever citizen-journalist collective won an Emmy for best feature documentary 2019.

The company has also produced animation series such as the Emmy-nominated series Picnic with Cake, The Wellie Wishers for Amazon Prime, Doopie which was in 2020 nominated for International Kids Emmy Award and the feature film Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles, which won the jury award at Annecy Festival in 2019. In 2021 Submarine released three animated features: Where is Anne Frank, Best Birthday Ever and Coppelia, a live-action/animation hybrid in collaboration with the Dutch National Ballet.

In 2022 Submarine released four more high profile projects: Richard Linklater’s latest film Apollo 101⁄2 : A Space Age Childhood on Netflix, the second season of Amazon Prime Video series Undone by Bojack Horseman creators Kate Purdy and Raphael Bob Waksberg, Two Tiny Toddlers, which was the first CGI film to be entirely animated in The Netherlands and the animated bonus episode of the Netflix Sandman series called A Dream of a Thousand Cats.

Submarine’s upcoming projects includeThe Kollective by ZeroZeroZero showrunner Leonardo Fasoli, the animated movie Fox and Hare Save the Forest and They Shot the piano player directed by Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal (the duo behind the feature Chico and Rita). Upcoming series include: Echo Boy, a futuristic thriller based on the novel by New York Times bestseller Matt Haig, developed by screenwriter Jamie Crighton (The Last Kingdom, Ripper Street), Proliferation, based on the book Fallout: The True Story of the CIA’s Secret War on Nuclear Trafficking, and Faction the drama series by Jane Eden (The Split), with Miguel Alexandre (Black Island) directing.
